After the overwhelming success of our POETRY IDOL contests, last year we presented all six winners of the first three contests to battle it out in the ultimate POETRY IDOL RIVAL IDOLS contest.

On 15th December 2005 SHORTFUSE brought to you, the braying public, the much anticipated...

Featuring:

Ritchie Scurvie

Suzanne Andrade

Paul Marshall

Richard Johnson

Wayne Smith

Kate Fox.

And what a night...the sold out, capacity crowd were treated to fantastic performances by six very distinctive poets, kicked off by a rock'n'roll performance by Nathan Penlington and Father Christmas - complete with the smashing of instruments and starting of fire. The first name out of the Christmas stocking was Ritchie Scurvey with a guest appearance by Socky the glove puppet. Wayne Smith came well prepared including a lovely little photostory for the audience. Last act of the first half was Kate Fox, fantastically funny comic poet. After the break, and a little more gift giving from Santa, Richard Johnson walked us through girls giving directions using technology and some close to the bone poetry. Paul Marshall performed some clever pieces that shifted effortlessly between humourous and intelligent. Last, but no means least, Suzanne Andrade performed darkly funny tales lit by a bare bulb, to a scratchy 1920's soundtrack.

Votes were cast, points were counted, and the winner: Suzanne Andrade

Again, a great night, and hopefully the people we had to turn away at the door because we were sold out won't be too disapointed. Our advice for the New Year, book tickets, arrive early.
